INDIGO FROM HOM PLANT TO DYE 9^th and 11^th  February 2015

Hands-on harvesting and dyeing fun.

Participants: Maximum of 10 people, Minimum 5.

Schedule:

9^th Feb 2015 Day 1:   9:30 am Cutting Indigo plants. Washing the leaves and soaking. Learn the theory of growing indigo and dye vat preparation. Prepare an indigo vat together.

 Finish at 12 noon

11^th Feb 2015 Day 2:  9:30 am Beating indigo. Tie dye techniques. Indigo dyeing. Lunch. More Indigo dyeing. Un-tying finished work.

4:00pm Collecting indigo paste. Conclusion. Finish at 4:30pm

A snack with tea and coffee will be provided at the mid-morning and mid-afternoon break. Lunch not included but a choice of Thai dishes from local restaurants can be ordered and taken on the verandah of the Studio. Hot and cold drinking water is provided.

Things to bring with you:

1.     A long sleeved shirt and covered shoes / boots on day 1 for harvesting as the plants may irritate your skin. Gloves will be provided.

2.     Mosquito repellant, Sun screen.

3.     Items for dyeing in the indigo vat: one item per person of 100% white pre-washed cotton, either one garment, a scarf or 1 meter of cloth. Fabrics for dyeing can be purchased at the Studio if required.

Price : 2,000 baht per person.

POP UP WORKSHOP

7th and 8th October 2014

Natural dye two day workshop with Patricia Cheesman

The dyes provided:

Indigo (Blue)

Annatto (orange)

Ebony (grey)

Jackfruit wood (yellow)

These colours can also be over-dyed to produce green, olive, tan, brown and black.

Studio Naenna will provide two pieces of cotton fabric the size of a scarf for decorating with shibouri and then dyeing. If participants wish to bring their own fabric it must be pure cotton, hemp or silk, un-dyed, clean, new and pre-washed. The maximum is 2 scarf size pieces each. Silk and cotton yarn is also available for purchase at the Studio for dyeing.

The workshop includes instruction on some shibouri techniques and the natural dye methods. Equipment provided includes gloves, aprons, dye vats, gas stoves etc.

A snack with tea and coffee will be provided at the mid-morning and mid-afternoon break as well as a packed lunch. A choice of Thai dishes can be ordered from local restaurants and taken on the verandah of the Studio. Hot and cold drinking water is provided.

Cost: 1 person 2000 baht
